Your Support Needed for Annual Spring Basket Drive
The GIVE Denver Spring Basket Drive is underway at Denver Human Services. Each spring, social workers nominate a child in need to receive a gift basket to make their day brighter. GIVE Denver is seeking community partners to donate pre-assembled baskets and items to create baskets for an estimated 400 children in need. Items to donate include: baskets, candy, small toys, coloring books and crayons, tooth brushes and toothpaste, grass filler, and monetary donations for unmet need. Please drop off donations by March 4 at the GIVE Denver Center, 1200 Federal Blvd., Denver, CO 80204. Checks should be made payable to Denver Human Services, attn: GIVE Denver.
Free Tax Preparation Assistance at DHS Castro Building
Free, volunteer income tax-preparation assistance (VITA) is available through March 29 at Denver Human Services’ Castro building in the Child Support Intake area (offices 1082 & 1084) for simple returns for individuals & families with qualifying incomes. IRS has partnered with AARP Foundation’s Tax Aide program to make this service available in the community.
When: Weds. & Thurs., 9:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Where: Denver Human Services, 1200 Federal Blvd.

Help End Homelessness at a Denver Nuggets Game!
The Denver Nuggets are teaming up with Denver’s Road Home by offering specially priced tickets to the LA. Clippers game on March 7. Each ticket grants you access to the game, provides $10 toward the purchase of any food, beverage or retail merchandise at the arena, and $5 from every ticket purchased benefits Denver’s Road Home to end homelessness as we know it. Tickets start at $30 apiece.
NEW LOCATION: March 19 GIVE Denver Community Network Meeting
The March 19 GIVE Denver Community Network meeting focusing on children and families will be held at the Denver District 2 Station at 3921 N Holly St. from 9:00 – 11:30 a.m. Please e-mail GIVE Denver Director Toni Panetta to RSVP for the meeting.
CALLS FOR FUNDING
Due March 1: Summer Programming Proposals
The Denver Office of Children’s Affairs is seeking requests for proposals to fund summer programs. Up to $250,000 in funds are available to nonprofit agencies and Denver Public Schools 21st Century sites for summer programs serving Denver school-age children and youth. Programs should offer a mix of academic and youth development activities and services and be used for service expansion.
Due March 15: AmeriCorps Community Building Partnership for Youth in Transition Host Sponsor Sites
Department of Human Services (DDHS) is releasing a Request for Application (RFA) seeking qualified applicants to become Host Sponsor Sites for the AmeriCorps Community Building Partnership for Youth in Transition (CBPYT) program. The CBPYT program services focus on providing specialized services for youth between the ages of 15 and 22 who are transitioning towards self-sufficiency. This RFA will identify Host Sites for the program year 2013-2014 which begins September 9, 2013 and ends July 31, 2014. Host Sites must currently work with youth between the ages of 15 and 22 who are transitioning towards self-sufficiency.
Reminder: $50,000 Prize for Non-Profit Collaboration
The Colorado Collaboration Award will offer a $50,000 prize to a highly successful nonprofit partnership. The 2013 Award application is open now through 5:00 p.m. March 15.
