1) Creative expression allows you to lose yourself in time.
2) Journaling helps when you are feeling sad, anxious, irritable, frustrated, lonely and even when you are feeling happy. It gives you an opportunity to vent and reflect, to get messy and let yourself go. A time to think and maybe even doodle.
If you don’t know where to start, begin with what does it mean to take care of myself? Make a list of what comforts you and then create a plan to implement them. Record how you feel when you do something on your list. How did it make you feel? If you did something with a friend, pet or loved one, describe how the companionship impacted your well being.
And if that sounds daunting, perhaps write down 3 things you are grateful for each night before you go to sleep and reflect on each one. Sweet dreams!
